I am a fully trained Shiatsu therapist and ITEC qualified Holistic, Aromatherapy and Indian Head Massage practitioner. I have a Diploma in Shiatsu and Oriental Medicine from Ki Kai Shiatsu College and have also completed a post-graduate course in Movement Shiatsu with Bill Palmer, and I continue to study Experiental Teaching with him. I am particularly interested in fertility and women's health - I hold a Diploma in Pregnancy Massage from the APNT, in association with Well Mother for which I received a Distinction. I am a trainee teacher with Suzanne Yates of Well Mother, and continuing my studies in the field of Pregnancy Shiatsu as well as doing a PGCE in Further education at Greenwich University. Personal Approach My massage style is very much influenced by my Shiatsu training, so even when I'm working with oil on a table I will still use relaxed body weight, adjusting pressure and quality of touch according to client needs from very light to very deep, and encorporate specific pressure points as indicated. My shiatsu is strongly influenced by the consensual model of Movement Shiatsu, which is based on the predicate that true healing is self-healing, and that my role as therapist is to facilitate that process. So, my preferred approach places more emphasis on exploration than diagnostics: although I am experienced in my field, you are still the expert on you. Client-empowerment is key to working with chronic conditions; you are not a machine, and you're not broken! |
